It depends on household size, number of bathrooms, tub sizes and how your family actually uses hot water. Many Toronto homes are well served by 40–50 gallon gas tanks or 50–80 gallon electric tanks, but the right size for your home is what matters.
Neither is universally better. Gas tanks recover faster and often cost less to run in the GTA; electric tanks are simpler, don't require venting and can be a great fit where gas isn't available. We recommend based on your home, not a preference.
Power-vent tanks use a fan to push exhaust through PVC or ABS venting — useful when a conventional chimney or B-vent isn't practical. We install them where it makes sense; not for every home.
In most closed plumbing systems (with a backflow preventer or pressure-reducing valve), yes. It protects the tank, plumbing and T&P valve from thermal expansion pressure.
A straightforward like-for-like swap is often a same-day install. Fuel or venting changes, or accessibility issues, can extend that.
